founded in 1971 by Housing Code Enforcement Officials from cities and towns throughout Connecticut.  These dynamic and visionary individuals     recognized the need for an organization to provide continued education and training for code officials along with networking opportunities and housing   related advocacy and legislation.

The first president of CAHCEO was John Potkay, Chief of Housing Code   Enforcement from the City of Hartford.  Mr. Potkay, D. Daniel Nobili from The City of Bridgeport and other code officials met in the spring of 1971 and began the legal process of incorporating the Association.   The original twenty eight (28) founding members of CAHCEO are often referred to as “Founding  Fathers” of the Association.

Since 1971 there has been eighteen (18) individuals that have held the position of President.  Today, CAHCEO’s membership is over 130 active and retired individuals comprised of Housing Code Officials, Registered  Sanitarians, Building Inspectors, and  Assistant States Attorneys from the State of Connecticut, Judicial Department.

CAHCEO
is presently the only Housing Code (Property Maintenance) organization representing and providing education and training, networking, advocacy and legislation for code officials in the New England States.

I
n 1997 CAHCEO became a chapter of the Building Officials and Code Administrators International, Inc. (BOCA).  In 2003 BOCA, the International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO) and the Southern  Building Code Congress International (SBCCI) merged into the International Code Council (ICC) forming the worlds  largest and most comprehensive model code and building safety organization.
